Scarlett Went Camping At Goat Island Marine Reserve This Weekend.

Scarlett’s family enjoyed a camping trip this weekend to Goat Island.  It is well deserved after Dad Chris organised the disco for the school and did an amazing job being our DJ.  All the lights looked amazing too!  Scarlett’s Mum Cedar also puts away over 100 of our readers every week.  Thank you so much!  Looks like Scarlett had a wonderful time in a special place.

How Are Your Bean Stalks?

How are your bean stalks? Some of the children have said their beans are alive and well and growing in the garden.  Would love to see photos if your bean stalk is still going strong!  If you have photos from the disco , I would love to put some of those on the blog too!  The children looked so fabulous but I was too busy dancing to take photos.

Your Children’s Friend Network

I hope you all had a great weekend.  I caught up with some dear friends, we met 12 years ago through our children.  I was thinking many of my dearest friends are actually people I have met through Georgia and Olivia.  Isn’t it wonderful that our children and schools can connect you with people that will become lifelong friends.  Like most busy families we don’t catch up as much as we would like and it takes enormous effort to find a date everyone can agree to, but it is wonderful when we do catch up. We mostly talk about the children, (some things don’t change).   AND cue drum roll… finally this weekend we are VERY excited because Georgia has her last exam on Monday for NCEA and then we can all relax! She has been studying all weekend.  Mr Brown is taking the girls to Fiji these holidays so it will be  lovely for them to relax before the big whopper NCEA exams start again in November.

Staff Quiz Night On Friday

One of the bonuses of being a teacher is you know lots of random ‘stuff’ about random things so we love a good quiz!  We had a staff quiz night at DePost on Friday night and I am really pleased to report my team won!  We had a metalic theme for our table – we all had to wear silver(ish) clothes.  I have to say Amy (Mrs Turner) and myself represented year 1 teachers really well by being able to answer the most bizarre questions – thank heavens for all our inquiry learning.  Or is it just because 5 year olds are so curious about life you end up researching and talking about the strangest of things?  Anyway yay for winning a medal!  Have a happy weekend everyone!

Yay For Room 5! How Gorgeous Were Your Beautiful Children!

What a wonderful morning!  Jess and I couldn’t be more proud of the children.  I am pleased that we are all experts at ‘going with the flow’ and I thought everyone was a cool cucumber when we had a few technical difficulties.  Well done to the children!  Your children are so famous even my Mum, we call her Narnie, came to the assembly, she said she wouldn’t miss it for anything. She brought all the children some treats.  So we have balloons, cupcakes and certificates for the children (and a non food treat if parent’s prefer us to give instead of cupcakes or popcorn).  Our Deputy Principal Catherine even bought in Penelope Penguin to say well done to the all the children afterwards.

Final Rehearsal Was Outside Today

The hall was out of action today as it was getting all set up for the disco.  We had a rehearsal today under the trees which was gorgeous.  We had a fun game of octupus afterwards as a reward.  Here is a sneak peak at our back stage art that all the children have worked on with Jess over the last month also.  Our assembly hosting tomorrow will be gorgeous – all the children have worked so hard and I could not be more proud of them.  We are looking forward to sharing with you all our hard work tomorrow.  Getting 5 year olds ready for speaking, dancing and singing on stage is a big deal and I think they are all super stars no matter what!

We Got The Good Seats For Lunch Today

We went out a smidge early today to make sure we got the good seats for lunch.  It was a nice little treat.  AND it was so lovely to see Sebastian noticeTristan sitting by himself and he got up and went and sat next to Tristan and said, “I would love to sit with you Tristan. Can I sit with you?”.  It made me smile!  Sebastian you are so kind and I loved how you noticed Tristan and decided to do a thoughtful thing.

The Bottom Playground

We had our first treat today, we went down to the bottom playground for some fresh air and fitness.  It was a fun way to start the day before our ‘free choosing writing’.  Most of us wrote about the costumes we are wearing tomorrow.  Our second treat for today is to go out to lunch 5 minutes early so we can get the best seats.  The hall is out of action today preparing for the disco tonight so we will do our last finishing touches on our assembly in room 5 and outside under the trees.
