Reading Literacy Activities

When we are not doing reading with a teacher we are doing literacy activities such as jigsaw puzzles, whiteboard alphabets, reading to teddy bears, stenciling and story boards.

New Room 5 Faces

This afternoon we got to do some special number craft – a craftinoon with our new Room 5 children.  Helena, Eloise and Eriko joined us for a classroom visit.  Phoebe wasn’t here this week but we will see her again soon.  Our new little friends will be starting in a few weeks.

Fundraising For Tonga

Today two intermediate students, (Olivia and Kate) came and spoke to us.  They both went on the year 6 leadership trip to Tonga last year.  They were sad that Tonga has been badly damaged by the recent cyclone and they are organising a fundraiser to send money to the school they visited to help them out.  If you have any books or toys you would like to donate, please bring them into Room 5 and we will take them over to the intermediate to store for the jumble sale. On Tuesday, the children can bring in money if they wish for the jumble sale which will be at lunchtime, (I can take the children over) and after school in the hall, (you can just wander over after school).

Principal Stickers

These two ladies have been working really really hard on their reading comprehension.  Often while the rest of the class are doing reading games and activities they are heads down answering questions about the texts they have been reading. So proud of you ladies.  Well done on your principal stickers!

Wednesday Sport

Sadly the rain started to fall so we had to have our sport session in the hall again BUT we loved having sack races and egg and spoon races with Room 4.

Transition To School Talk At Local Kindy

Last night I spoke at the Gardner Road Kindy AGM about transitioning children from kindys to schools.  Gardner Road is a special place for me as it is where my 2 daughters went many years ago.  Head Teacher Gaylene Brownlie is also part of the Auckland Central Schools leadership group with Alison and myself – responsible for promoting best practise transitioning children from early childhood providers to schools.  Alison, Gaylene and myself are a passionate team with a special interest in making sure children have the best start to school they possibly can. It was such a pleasure talking to a group of local  families who are coming up through the schooling system and about to undertake the adventures of school life.

Reader Beavers

Some little reader beavers in Room 5 do lots of follow up work and comprehension after reading their text.

We loved reading a funny story today about Little Meanies yukky lunch.

Writing Goals Have Been Set

We wrote up our new writing goals today.  Good to know what we are working towards and think about how we can achieve them. Quote of the day from Stella, “I sat at the chatter box table and I didn’t even chat”.  Well done Stella.  We have a lot of chatter box tables in Room 5!
