Samoan Language Week

A huge thank you to Scarlett’s Mum Cedar and Aunty Cilla who came and taught us some Samoan words, a Samoan song, and showed us some Samoan treasures.  We then did our phonics using the Samoan alphabet afterwards!!  Happy Samoan language week everyone.

It was lovely to see Scarlett’s little sister Storm join us for our Samoan lessons this morning. Faafetai Cedar, Aunty Cilla and Storm.  We know you are going around the whole school today sharing your wonderful Samoan culture.

Our End Of The Day Treat

We had such a busy day we thought we would give ourselves a little treat.  It was nice to finish the day playing on the big playground for ten minutes.  I do try and get photos of everyone and make sure there is an even spread of all the gorgeous faces.  I don’t always succeed but please know I try.  (AND yes you may have noticed I have worked out how to make photos bigger which is so exciting).

ESOL

When children have been at school for more than 6 months and speak English as a second language they go into our ESOL programme.  They do some great project work building their vocab and doing either extension work or extra support work depending on their needs.  It is a great system and children thrive with the extra boost.  Erynn runs the ESOL programme, one of our senior teachers.

Pink Ribbon Breakfast

The teachers were treated to a pink ribbon breakfast this morning by three lovely intermediate students fundraising for breast cancer.  Lucky us.  This is a good opportunity to introduce Catherine Palmer who is in the photo with me.  Catherine is our new deputy principal.  She currently teaches in the intermediate and is Olivia’s teacher.  We were really lucky to have her teaching Georgia also when she was in the intermediate.  It is really exciting to see Catherine as our new deputy principal, she will be amazing.

Also lovely Fran, is the intermediate girl on the far left of the above photo.  She is Gabriel’s oldest sister.  Gabriel is the youngest of four and I was lucky enough to teach his middle sister Scarlett three years ago.

Fancy Seeing You On A Sunday

It is always so gorgeous bumping into little faces out and about on the weekends.  It was very cute to see Vanessa and Arthur at St Lukes today.  Olivia and I had to get a whole lot of science board supplies as the intermediate children are working on big science inquries at the moment.  We will make sure little Room 5 goes up to see them all when they finish to have a look.  It is always nice to visit different parts of the school and see what the children are up to.
