We had a treat today for writing. The children could write about anything they wanted. Most children wrote in their books but some children wrote on whiteboards. Well done Room 5.

Kohia Terrace School. Year 1. The life of 5 year olds. We want to invite parents and family into our classroom. Come and watch our adventures and learn about what we are learning. So when the children come home and you ask, "What did you do today?", the children will never be able to say, "nothing" ever again…our days are busy and learning constant. We love sharing our special first year of school life with you.

Meet Brownie, he is our new circle time teddy bear friend. We have started circle time in Room 5. Brownie needs help solving problems and we are going to help him with strategies. This is a great way for children to learn different ways indirectly to help solve some of their own school concerns.

It is great learning what some of the children are interested in outside of school. Some of the children in Room 5 are into Pokemon. I have been learning all about Pikachu and Popplio.

There has been lots of chat about lunch time rules lately. We are getting strict now. These are our expectations…
Lunch Eating Expectations

After some mat chats about telling the time we did a follow up activity on things we see during the day and things we see during the night. This lead to a great lesson on nocturnal animals. Wow we are so clever in Room 5.

Welcome to Jess our new Room 5 learning assistant. Jess will be with us in a few weeks. Jess will be working full time, (9 am to 3 pm, 5 days a week), to support our learning. Jess is going to teachers training college next year so we are lucky to have someone so keen to be in the classroom. We look forward to her starting. We are so lucky to have such incredible support in Room 5 and we have lots of projects and adventures planned already.

We went over some greetings in Te Reo and sang songs with Miss K.
