Kohia Terrace School. Year 1. The life of 5 year olds. We want to invite parents and family into our classroom. Come and watch our adventures and learn about what we are learning. So when the children come home and you ask, "What did you do today?", the children will never be able to say, "nothing" ever again…our days are busy and learning constant. We love sharing our special first year of school life with you.
Well done to these four fabulous students. Alexandra got the excelling through effort award. Sebastian got the nurturing the human spirit award – kindness. Nadia got the leadership award and academic excellence award. Vanessa received the academic excellence award. Well done. We are super proud of you!
Tomorrow at our formal prizegiving assembly it is a really special occasion. As a Mum and a teacher I wanted you to know that Georgia waited a long long time before she got an award, (Olivia has had a different experience because of her sporting ability). Tomorrow we are going to celebrate four very very special children in room 5 at our school end of year prizegiving, please also know I will also be looking down at the other 20 beautiful faces. Just like my experience as a Mum, I am equally proud of both my daughters no matter how many prizes they have received; I am equally proud of all the children in room 5.
This saying means a lot to me…

Its a time of badges, certificates, medals, trophies, recognition, awards, prizes and ‘seeing’ of high achievement. I love seeing the kids that shine at this time of year – a big high heartfelt round of applause to you. You so deserve it for the effort you have put in.
But this message is for the kids that didn’t get called up for any of the above…
I SEE YOU.
To the child that conquered their fear of heights, or sleeping in the dark, or riding without training wheels or sleeping out for the night for the first time this year, I SEE YOU
To the child that managed to resolve more conflict than they started this year, to the child that learnt to say the impossible; “I’m sorry”, and to the child that walked away from the fighting instead of getting involved, I SEE YOU
To the child for whom school is a huge struggle, you get up everyday and you go, I SEE YOU
To the child that battled all year with the maths, or reading, or concentration, or speaking out in class, or learning their words, but persevered anyway, I SEE YOU
To the child that found the kindness in their heart reach out in anyway to another person or to an animal in need or in pain, I SEE YOU
To the child that learnt to give and to share for the first time this year and even found joy in these, I SEE YOU
To the child that battles to make friends and to be social, you made new friends this year and for that, I SEE YOU
To the child who wanted so much to please, but was just out of sight of an adult who perhaps was too busy or too distracted, I SEE YOU
To the child who lost a friend or a loved one this year, but carried on everyday bravely even though their heart ached, I SEE YOU
To the brave parents that try everyday to do the best for their kids, I SEE YOU.
May you and your children revel in small but significant victories that you have both experienced this year, as I will with my beautiful children. For every year there is progress and growth, we don’t need a podium or handshake or a hall of applause to be seen.

It is going to be a bit of a mission taking the little people around the stalls tomorrow at 2.30. I have asked my 15 year old daughter Georgia and a few of her friends Phoebe, Georgia Waugh and Amani to come and help the children with their money and circulate at the busy markets. This way we will know the little room 5 children will be looked after in the hustle and bustle of the busy markets on the bottom field. The children will be returned to room 5 at 3 pm for you to go back down if you would like, (or come and find us on the bottom field). Soooo there will be a gaggle of teenage girls tomorrow afternoon buddied up with small groups of room 5 children. It is going to be fun! You can collect your child from the girls (not me) tomorrow if your child is with one of them – they can do the handover.

Market Day is tomorrow which is really exciting. We are dropping off our sprinkles to the intermediates today so they can be stall ready to sale tomorrow. 
We went and met the new KTS music teacher for next year. The intermediates shared with us their band music – they had only practised the songs two times!!!!! They were amazing!!!! Your lovely children will get to have music sessions too – I am not sure they will be in a school band just yet but I spotted a couple that were keen to put it on their goals lists for later on in their schooling career!
