So lovely to see so many gorgeous year 1 faces and families at Melville Park this afternoon. A great way to get together and be a community. So many years of schooling ahead and so nice to know this group of children will be growing up together and sharing lots of adventures. Good to see some Dads not afraid to bowl out their children at cricket which made us smile. Thank you so much for organising Nina and Mel.
I Remember…
I do understand what a big milestone it is when your child starts school. Georgia started in Wellington at a beautiful school in Seatoun. I remember worrying if she would eat her lunch, remember to go to the toilet, have friends to play with, remember to put on a jumper if she was cold – her learning was the last thing on my mind. Starting school is the first big step into a big world on your own, as a parent I do understand the trust you put in teachers to look after your precious little person.
When we moved up to Auckland, I worried again about moving schools and the girls making new friends. As parents we always worry don’t we?
I had just started back working when Olivia started school in Auckland and my Mum had to do the school visits and many of the pick ups and drop offs along with our nanny. I found this so hard after 8 years being at home with the girls. Now I find it is so lovely to see the village of family members and nannys, au pairs and networks helping everyone out with the mighty work and family juggle at school with your children. It is lovely to see everyone helping and supporting each other. Our family network and community is so important and something very special at Kohia Terrace School.
I remember…Olivia’s last kindy day was such a huge milestone for me! Walking out that door for the last time to start a new big chapter of school days for my youngest was huge. End of an era…
I remember…Getting little people out the door for school is always a juggle, but school days are important and precious and something very positive in little people’s lives. The first year of school is a very big milestone and teachers really do understand that. Happy school days everyone. I remember…
Have a Lovely Weekend Everyone

Introducing Bella Ali
Ms Ali is in the classroom today while I do my transitioning children to school work for our central Auckland school cluster. Bella taught year 1 at Kohia Terrace School five years ago and now has a gorgeous 3 year old son Jacob, and a 17 month old little daughter Mila and teaches part time.
This Made Me Smile
Maths
Eriko was here for her final visit this afternoon before she starts in Room 5 on Monday. Welcome Eriko.
Numbers, numbers, numbers – the number before, the number after, counting forwards, counting backwards…
Did You Know?
There is a cafe caravan across the road from the school, parked in a driveway, just by the school crossing on Kohia Terrace Ave. Callum owns the coffee and hot chocolate van. The intermediate children are allowed to go over at lunchtime on a Thursday to buy hot chocolates, (not anyone younger than year 6 though). Always nice to support small young businesses and Callum use to go to Kohia Terrace School many years ago – he is open in the mornings before school if you ever feel like a coffee.
Thanks Julian
This book was hilarious thanks Julian!!!! The children loved Mrs Brown having to say silly things.
Ask Lots and Lots and Lots of Questions…
Asking lots and lots of questions about what we read is so important. Talking about the books your children bring home builds their comprehension skills which helps them move up levels! Yay!
