Just love your big bike Phoebe. I can’t believe you have no training wheels. My daughters still had training wheels on their bikes when they were five! I am impressed!

Kohia Terrace School. Year 1. The life of 5 year olds. We want to invite parents and family into our classroom. Come and watch our adventures and learn about what we are learning. So when the children come home and you ask, "What did you do today?", the children will never be able to say, "nothing" ever again…our days are busy and learning constant. We love sharing our special first year of school life with you.

When it is wet lunch, Friday afternoons or before school we have some new treasures for the children to play with now. A lovely KTS family donated this doll house to our room. We also have a new castle, some dinosaurs, pirate maps for some learning activities and some great books!! Most of the play things, books and activities in Room 5 have come from my house as the girls have outgrown things over the years so it has been amazing to get some more activities that might inspire our ‘less pink’ friends.

We are trying something new this term out in the playground. We have new trained up intermediate coaches to help support our little people. Guess who is one of the coaches? Olivia has been on lots of coaching courses and is one of 15 intermediates available to help guide the younger children to solve their own problems during morning tea and lunchtimes.

Tselmeg and Finn got new school bags in the holidays.

Some of you might want to follow up at home…we had a big chat today about not worrying about school. Mrs Brown is always here to help the children and they never need to worry about coming. We have had such a happy day but I know after two weeks away some children didn’t get much sleep last night with the anticipation of coming back. We had lots of ‘fluffy’ chats (as I would say) about school being a wonderful place. I am always here to help them whenever they need. The idea is we can get through our school days as a team and solve little dilemma’s that come up together. Don’t ever worry about school is the main message to our little people.

One of our lovely parents sent me this article. You may want to read the following tips on how to get out of the house each morning with as little chaos as possible. Good luck I know mornings are really busy times in family homes!!!!

We all have our own reading pathways goal books now that we will use every reading session. Even Brownie bear has one.

We have started using Seesaw in Room 5 as the rest of the school is now using it for digital sharing of children’s work. I will send out more details on how you can view it at the end of the week. Your child can take photos of their work and send to you directly – you will only be able to view your child’s learning. You can comment on it if you wish. It has been trialled successfully in other classes. We are going to give ourselves the week to practise using it some more. There is a free app also you can download for your phone, this is great and I use this to view Olivia’s intermediate work. Watch this space…more details will come.

Wow looks like Paddington Bear had a wonderful holiday with Alexandra! Welcome back.
