Kohia Terrace School. Year 1. The life of 5 year olds. We want to invite parents and family into our classroom. Come and watch our adventures and learn about what we are learning. So when the children come home and you ask, "What did you do today?", the children will never be able to say, "nothing" ever again…our days are busy and learning constant. We love sharing our special first year of school life with you.
We planted beans today to celebrate Matariki. We are getting inspiration from the fairy tale, Jack and The Beanstalk. We have been goggling facts about growing beans and we are hopeful they will start sprouting in tenish days. Guess what will be coming home in the holidays for you to continue your gardening skills?
Wow Phoebe you are so clever! Scarlett brought in the unicorn you made for her. Amazing. We are impressed!
Yay for the intermediate students who came down to help us with the maths quiz today for our school PicknMix fundraiser. Lots of little teachers were needed to help work through the questions and write the answers in the right spot. It has been a busy PicknMix day!!!! Tomorrow is skipping and word whiz.
All but 5 children put their names down to be a Jump Jammer for the school PicknMix fundraiser competition. Busy morning so far!
The whole class ended up doing the trivia quiz this morning with special attention given to the ‘official contenders’. We even used buzzers and pretended we were in a game show. Sheesh the questions were tricky!!!!!
Awwww so lovely to get my tea and toast this morning. Thank you Avery and Nadia for my home made ‘get better soon’ cards. I love them!

Skip counting in 5s was mastered today in little Room 5. We are starting to get the hang of going forwards and backwards in 2s, 5s and 10s.
Miss K did something different in Room 5 for reading. She read to the class ‘The Three Little Pigs’ and then the children did a sequencing activity. Great to do new things!
Little Room 5 also continued their learning on Matariki. The children got underway on our planting project which we will finish tomorrow. We are going to plant and grow beans and see if we can make a bean stork just like the story, ‘Jack and the beanstalk’.

Miss K and Jess did a great job in Room 5 today. Everyone did some more Te Reo learning. The children went over the Maori colour names.
The children published their space writing from last week and then did a follow up labelling planet quiz.
Little Room 5 learnt a new game today. Everyone had to curl up into a ball and Miss K would cover one child with a magical blanket. Everyone had to guess who was hidden.
